"You be Jesus and Let God be God"
Disclaimer: This is not a title that I made. This is a title of a preaching under the Elevation church. Mrs. Holly Furtick, the wife of the senior pastor of the Elevation church, shared this preaching. This blog is mostly about my reflection from the preaching of Mrs. Furtick.
I was so encouraged to share my thoughts when I heard this message from an online preaching compilations. This has been so helpful for me especially in dealing with the issues I have in life.
YOU BE JESUS
There's a mother who has 2 sons. She was cooking some pancakes for her sons. Her sons kept on shouting,"Let me have the first one!" "No it's mine." "It's mine!" So the mother paused for a while and told her sons,"You know what, if Jesus was here, He'd choose to be last because He'd rather give you the first than claiming He deserves the first even when He truly deserves it. That's how Jesus loves us all." Then the first son talked to his brother,"You be Jesus!"
This story is kind of funny but when we think about it, that's how we react most of the time. Whenever we had a heated argument with someone, we point at them and demand them to be like Jesus and ask for our forgiveness. Whenever there's an opportunity to bless, we ask them to be like Jesus and give us the blessing because we think we deserve it. Whenever we want to say we love the people around us, we want them to say "I love you" first before acknowledging that we feel the same. BUT THE BIBLE CLEARLY SAYS THAT IF WE REALLY WANT TO FOLLOW CHRIST, WE NEED TO BECOME LIKE HIM AND TAKE OUR OWN CROSS EVERYDAY. What is Jesus like? Jesus is passionately in love with us. Jesus is humble in every way, He deserves all things on Earth yet He chose to be born in a manger. Jesus is selfless, He'd rather die than see us suffer in hell. Jesus overlooks all offenses, even if that offense nailed Him on the cross. Jesus never doubts whether He'll forgive us or not, because He wholeheartedly decided to follow the will of His Father. Jesus rejoices with us whenever we experience success. Jesus mourns with us whenever we lose something dearly. Jesus does not condemn us. THAT'S WHO JESUS IS. Now the question is: If you are really a follower of Jesus, are you doing this to others? Are you being like Jesus in everything you do? Being like Jesus is not an easy thing to do. In fact, with our flesh, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BE LIKE HIM. But this is what He asks us to do. To be like Jesus to others.
LET GOD BE GOD
Who is God? God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth. God breathes and gives everyone a precious gift called LIFE. God is Almighty, All Powerful, All Knowing. God is the beginning and the end. God knows all the secrets hidden in darkness. God is pure and just. God punishes sin but gives mercy to the people who belong to Him. God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. But sometimes when we know these facts, we still tend to doubt His power and abilities. We feel helpless especially when we face hardships like relational dysfunction, financial struggles, and sin problems. We encounter trials of many kinds and in many times but God remains the same. He is faithful and true. So we just have to let God be God in our lives. It takes great faith to believe what God can do in the most impossible situation that we have, yet when we allow Him to be GOD in our lives, He will surely make us stand in awe of His power and greatness!
Well yes, these two things are easier said than done. When we get to that point, we'll surely ask Him if what He asks from us can really be possible. Ofcourse it is and it will always be as long as we ask His grace to change our hearts and let it be conformed in His likeness.
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we
will come to them and make our home with them.
John 14:21,23
And this is His promise to those who decide to BE JESUS and LET GOD BE GOD, the Lord will love us, He will show Himself to them, and He will make Their home with them.
Don't we all want this PROMISE in our lives? :)
