LUWALHATI NG MAYNILA

Image
Today is our visit to the institute "Luwalhati ng Maynila." This institute cares for the elders of our community who were not properly taken care of by their families. Just a thought of this place makes my heart beat so fast because I have a soft heart for the elders. I am very much excited to see them gathered together and to see how God will mightily move in this place. We went inside the hall and they all greeted us with big smiles on their faces. Some offered their seats. I preferred to stand because it is their day and they are the ones who needed to be served. We started with praise and worship songs. I can clearly see that there are elders who freely worship God with all their strength. There was also this inspirational message given by one of the volunteers. Aside from the message, the elders were serenaded by two excellent bands. Truly, there was joy ringing in their hearts. As the sessions started, I walked towards the elders at the back because they ...

Conquer the Fear

"As frightening as it may be, that pain will make you stronger.    Yet if you are bound to be able feel it, embrace it.    It will make you more powerful than you have ever imagined.    It’s the greatest gift that we have; to bear that pain without breaking.    And it’s fallen from the most human path: hope.    Please, Charles we need you… to hope again." –Charles Xavier Just like the young Charles Xavier, I fear pain. I fear getting hurt. I fear making mistakes. Because of this fear, I do not usually take risks. I would rather stay where I am, where it is safe rather than take the step out of my comforts. If I was the young Charles Xavier, I would probably do the same – drug myself to avoid what causes me pain and not to want it back again. But the Old Charles Xavier is right; pain makes us stronger even if it is hurts. There are also instances that even if the fear is real the danger isn’t. We live in f...

VACATION LESSONS

"Hurray!" This was my first thought when I learned I'll be out of work in a few days. But as it started, I realized how boring it is to rest all day for a couple of weeks. And because I don't want to waste a precious time, I wrote some of the things I've learned in this new season of mine.  1. God does not love us based on what we do. He loves us simply because He is the One who created us.                    I love dedicating my work to God. It feels good working hard and           accomplishing things for the glory of God. And so during this unemployment          season, I become frustrated because I haven't done anything worthy for the          Lord. I felt anxious every single day. I have forgotten the purpose of my          life. But by the grace of God, I have learned one more time...

C is for CHRIST

I started 2014 knowing God's call for me with great assurance. He said I'll be leaving my country to be a tentmaker in Singapore. The favor of the Lord is always upon me as I take a leap of faith in letting my family and my leaders know God's plan this year. That is one of my assurance that I am not doing this just because of my own desires but because He commands me to do it.     As one application is on hold, God opened another opportunity for me to become a preschool teacher in Singapore. They said I needed to prepare a demo-teaching and storytelling in the day of my application. I knew right there and then that I am going to demo-teach the Letter C in Phonics. And it was amazing how my preparation led me from one thing to another.     As I pray about it, I asked God why He impressed the letter C as the topic of my lesson. Then He finally answered: C is for CHRIST . To all readers, may I ask you to stand with me in prayers as I believe a...

GOAL

Image
As part of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary's vision to bridge cultures for Christ, the school sent four mission teams led by students during last year's Christmas break. One of which is a sports mission team. Last December 20, 2013, a group of people (students, professors, children) from the seminary visited the Angono Football Club to minister to its football players. Sticky earth on our cleats The afternoon started with orientation and introductions. The kids showed enthusiasm as they looked at an intercultural, inter-racial group of people. (I guess, having people from other countries really creates excitement for Filipinos.) We had games and some football matches. The players were also divided into groups for short conversations (which centered on teaching about reaching our goals and telling them how God is very important for us to reach goals) and prayer time. It was a very short time. Yet, I know that the Lord has touched both the lives of the Angon...

WHEN GOD DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

For some time in our lives, the thought of God making no sense at all in a certain situation is inevitable. We all have questions like “Why is this happening to us?” “How could God let it happen?” “Of all people, why me?” And all we could say is “I don’t really understand!”                   When we look deeper into the Bible, we will know that a prophet also share the same thoughts that we have, he is Habakkuk. The prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received. Habakkuk’s Complaint 2  How long, LORD, must I call for help,   but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!”    but you do not save? 3  Why do you make me look at injustice?    Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me;    there ...
