A Review of Popular: Boys, Booze and Jesus

Image
Popular: Boys, Booze and Jesus by Tindell Baldwin is packed with sincerity as the author bares herself in the book. As you read along, you do not only get to know her story but you get to reflect on your own life. We all have been in (or could still be in) a point in our lives when we feel so desperate to be accepted, to become one of the popular ones. Tindell Baldwin shares how she struggled with this as a teenager. She desperately wanted to be accepted, she went beyond limits. She succeeded. She became popular… but for all the wrong reasons. She did all she could to become popular but when she became one, she found out that it was not life is all about. Her story is an eye-opener for young girls, moreover it is a warning. As the author opens her life, you can feel her deep desire for her life to serve as a caution for young girls. The way she opens her life in the book allows the readers to not only see the problem on the surface. The author uncovered herself by g

The Wonderful Gardener

While I was helping my father fix his garden, a revelation from the Lord was given to me. When I first saw my father allowing vines to grow on the outside walls of our house, I was shocked and pissed because it's so ugly. In my thoughts, I wanted to ask my father why would he allow those plants to grow even if it makes our own house a laughing stock for neighbors because they might think we are not taking care of our property. Months have passed until I was able to visit my father's house again. After almost six months, I noticed the changes of the vines on the walls of our house. It looked like a jungle background for a Facebook profile picture! My father asked me to help him trim down leaves and stems that are growing out of the way. Not thinking what it may look like, I did as my father commanded me. When I finished trimming all the uneven leaves, all I began to say was, "This is very good!" I loved how the vines evenly covered our walls. It seemed very cozy an

So Long, Insecurity

"So Long, Insecurity" is a book written by Ms. Beth Moore . It discusses many  teenage girls issues nowadays like popularity , insecurity , fashion , and attention  from boys .          The book has several essential and factual contents that are very much  appealing and in tune with what teenage girls are into this generation. Most girls  love to answer personality tests in the magazines, this book has such  tests to guide us regarding the issues we face everyday. It also has some  biblical stories, like the story of Queen Esther, that we can all relate to.  Furthermore, the book includes Beth's encouragement for all the girls out there.  Among all other features that So Long, Insecurity have, the most helpful and  remarkable one is that, it contains interviews from Christian teenage girls who  experience  these struggles yet continue to experience total security in God's love for them.           As I read this book, I recall how God has truly ch

Discovering Strengths

I am driven to write this note about myself for 3 reasons: 1) Previously, I asked God what He thought about me when He created me, and He answered. 2) I have known myself in such an overwhelming way, that I need to express it. (Please bear with me.)  3) And I’d like to share to you the Strengths Finder. :) It will help you know the best of who you are. Studies show that if we know our strengths and be motivated to act on it, we become more actively engaged in what we do and we can be more positive and productive. Rath said, "The key to human development is building on  WHO YOU ALREADY ARE." You cannot be anything you want to be but you can be a lot more of who you already are. So this is who I am: CONNECTEDNESS. I believe things happen for a reason. I find it very enthusiastic knowing that we are all connected with one another. Simple ways, like crossing a street with a stranger, spurs a lot of thoughts on how he/she can be connected with m
