Life of the Beloved Part 1: TAKEN

After reading “Life of the Beloved” by Henri Nouwen and talking to some people, I can’t help but put my thoughts into writing. I want to help you realize who you are and who God wants you to be. I am not yet there as well, so let us take on this journey together.

I will take on Nouwen’s four key words – taken, blessed, broken and given – and many other things which I read from the book.

Part 1: TAKEN

Nouwen said in his book that being “taken” is being “chosen by God”. It is true that even before you were conceived, God knew you already. Before your parents have met (and even way before that), God knew exactly who you are.

And not only does God know you, He has chosen you. He has set you apart.*

The fact that you are reading this is no accident. God wants you to know that you are special in His sight.  Yes, you are chosen by God; you are special. Even if you feel or think that you are not, I tell you and I will keep on telling you that you ARE. You have an “eternal value”. Do not look down on yourself because of what you’ve done in the past. Our value to God does not depend on what we’ve done. We are sometimes too hard on ourselves; we think we are worthless because of the way we have lived. But our past does not define who we are to God.

Will you be content to be forever known as a drunkard? A cheater? A liar? A sinner?  God’s plan is to take you out of the darkness and put you in His light. During those moments of darkness, God still sees you as a valuable creation. He does not want you to be blind eternally. And He has chosen you to become the light of this world. Don’t you see how special you are?

The same God to whom you have sinned against
is the same God who is faithfully loving you.

Isn’t it amazing???

You are taken by God, chosen by Him. No matter what is happening in your life the Truth will never change. Even if you try to run away from it you will never be able to escape His love and mercy. You will never be able to push God away. He will always remind you how special you are to Him because His love for you is immeasurable. So do not take this love for granted. Let Him take you out of the situation you are in and put you where He wants you to be. If you want to have the life of a Beloved, choose God. Remember, He has chosen you already.

I'll post about being "blessed" soon. But until then, always remember you are part of God’s plan, therefore you are important.

P.S. Thank you Ate Joy and Anderson for telling me about the book.
And to you my sister, Judie, I was thinking about you while writing this.
I hope this has touched your heart. <3
